CONTROL Resonant has now launched worldwide for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, giving September one of its biggest new releases. Remedy Entertainment describes it as the studio’s most expansive game to date. Instead of returning to the Oldest House for another conventional sequel, Resonant opens the action into a distorted version of Manhattan where entire streets and buildings have been reshaped by a paranatural threat. The change of setting matters: the city is designed as a more open-ended space with optional paths, missions and areas to investigate alongside the main story.
CONTROL Resonant is out now — and it changes the series more than expected
Remedy’s biggest game so far moves the paranormal action into a warped Manhattan, puts Dylan Faden in the lead and rebuilds combat around a shape-shifting melee weapon.

The other major shift is the protagonist. Players control Dylan Faden, Jesse Faden’s brother, whose captivity and supernatural connection formed an important part of the original Control. Jesse is missing when Resonant begins, leaving Dylan to understand a world that has moved on without him while searching for his sister. Remedy’s official material frames the story around the complicated history of the Faden family and Dylan’s struggle to decide who he wants to become after years of being treated as an object of study and containment.
Combat has also been rebuilt rather than lightly adjusted. Dylan uses the Aberrant, a supernatural weapon capable of taking multiple melee forms. Xbox Wire’s hands-on coverage highlighted styles such as Flurry, Slash and Slice, each intended for a different rhythm and range. Dylan combines those weapons with paranormal abilities, movement upgrades and environmental destruction. That makes Resonant closer to an action RPG than the third-person shooter structure of the first game, while retaining the shifting architecture, surreal imagery and reality-bending encounters that define the Control universe.
The launch covers PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, the Epic Games Store and GeForce NOW. Remedy says a Mac version will follow later in 2026. Steam lists the PC release as September 24 and provides the current system requirements, while the PlayStation announcement confirms the same global launch date for PS5. Platform-specific store pages should still be checked before purchasing because editions, pricing and available extras vary by region.
Why is this such a significant release? CONTROL Resonant is not simply more Control. It changes the playable character, moves beyond the original game’s central location and gives melee combat a much larger role. That makes it relevant both to returning fans and to players who found the first game’s shooting less appealing. It is also Remedy’s first major self-published release in this universe, so its reception will influence how the studio develops Control and its connected stories from here.
